Data Entry Operator at Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA)

The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is a humanitarian medical organization founded in 2009.

ALIMA’s mission is to provide high-quality healthcare in emergencies and medical disaster situations, while also improving humanitarian medical practices through innovative, research-driven projects.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Medical Data Entry Officer will be responsible for entering medical data into ALIMA’s mission database in line with organizational protocols, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and up-to-date records to support the delivery of healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately enter medical data (e.g., patient information, visit dates, prescriptions, viral load results) into the mission database in accordance with ALIMA protocols.
  • Assist in compiling data from ALIMA-supported health structures and partner facilities.
  • Identify and rectify missing or inconsistent data.
  • Update patient records and correct errors when necessary.
  • Perform regular backups of all entered data.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the data recording area, ensuring the proper care of all equipment and patient files.
  • Report any data-related issues to the supervisor.
  • Generate statistical reports as required by the medical team.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality of all patient and medical information.

Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Statistics, Laboratory Technology, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in data entry. Previous NGO experience is an added advantage.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of local languages (Hausa and Kanuri) is desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, and database management.
  • Ability to learn and use data recording software (e.g., EpiData, EpiInfo).
  • Basic understanding of medical statistics and databases is desirable.

Soft Skills:

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong teamwork, flexibility, reliability, and stress management.

General Requirements

  • Good understanding of the working environment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
  • Must be discreet and respectful of both professional and personal boundaries.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed based on mission priorities.
