Job Title: Data Enumerator – Qualitative Survey
Locations: Abuja (FCT), Anambra, Borno, Kano, Lagos, and Rivers States
Project Overview:
As part of the Malaria Market Analysis (MMA) project, Malaria Consortium is conducting a qualitative survey to explore the demand and supply dynamics of malaria prevention commodities across six states in Nigeria.
The study aims to inform malaria prevention strategies, health system strengthening, and improved consumer behavior insights.
Scope of Work:
Data Enumerators will support field activities using the following tools:
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Guide
- Key Informant Interview (KII) Guide
- In-depth Interview (IDI) Guide
Each data collection team will consist of two enumerators:
- One lead interviewer responsible for guiding discussions/interviews.
- One note-taker responsible for documenting both verbal and non-verbal cues using MC templates.
Enumerators will be supervised by State Data Supervisors and must ensure participant consent is obtained for interviews and audio recordings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and recruit eligible respondents for FGDs, KIIs, and IDIs.
- Schedule and conduct interviews in safe, conducive, and private settings.
- Collect data using audio devices and maintain data confidentiality.
- Participate in tool pretesting and training sessions.
- Ensure proper use of qualitative tools per respondent category.
- Submit daily reports and signed timesheets to the supervisor.
- Attend daily debriefing sessions organized by state supervisors.
- Review and ensure accuracy and completeness of collected data.
- Transcribe audio files verbatim in the local language and translate to English.
- Submit all required documentation including consent forms and field notes.
Deliverables:
- Accurate audio recordings of FGDs, KIIs, and IDIs.
- Verbatim transcriptions in the local language and translations into English.
- Properly filled and signed informed consent forms.
- Accurate field notes for all sessions.
- Daily activity reports submitted to the supervisor.
Data Collection Target:
- 6 Focus Group Discussions per state
- 3 rural & 3 urban groups, covering different income brackets
- Each session: 6–12 participants, lasting 60–90 minutes
- 10 Key Informant Interviews
- With institutional suppliers of malaria prevention commodities
- 8 In-depth Interviews per state
- 4 urban & 4 rural, with community leaders and key stakeholders
- 10 National & State-Level KIIs
- Among stakeholders such as NMEP, ACPN, PSN, SON, NAPMED, SMEP, and partners
Target Respondents:
- Household heads, vulnerable groups, and students (for FGDs)
- Community opinion leaders (for IDIs)
- Manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers (for KIIs)
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in relevant fields
- Minimum of 1 year experience conducting qualitative surveys in public health
- Proficiency in the use of Android data collection tools (KoboCollect, SurveyCTO)
- Strong knowledge of the local language in the state of assignment (Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, etc.)
- Residency in the assigned state is highly preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English and local language
- Good organizational and time management skills
