Nigerian AI Collective 2025 AI for Civil Society Workshop

Applications are now open for the 2025 AI for Civil Society Workshop hosted by the Nigerian AI Collective.

This six-month initiative invites registered civil society organisations (CSOs) across Nigeria to participate in a transformative program designed to build AI capacity, strengthen advocacy skills, and promote ethical and inclusive AI governance.

This workshop is delivered by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), with support from Luminate.

Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from Nigerian CSOs, non-profits, and advocacy organisations working in tech, governance, digital rights, or civic engagement spaces—especially those who:

  • Have a proven record of community engagement, digital innovation, or advocacy.
  • Seek to incorporate AI in their social impact work or advocacy efforts.
  • Aim to improve public service delivery or drive accountability using AI tools or frameworks.

Eligibility Criteria

Participating organisations should:

  • Be currently engaged in AI-related advocacy, digital rights work involving AI systems, or promoting ethical AI governance.
  • Be exploring or actively using AI tools, models, or systems to advance their missions.
  • Have a clear interest in scaling their AI capabilities to support future interventions or influence policy decisions in their sector.

What Selected Organisations Will Receive

  • Expert-led training on AI fundamentals, data governance, algorithmic transparency, and ethics in AI.
  • Strategic support to design and implement AI-focused advocacy campaigns.
  • Peer learning sessions with fellow CSOs, media professionals, technologists, and policymakers.
  • Financial assistance to support AI advocacy projects, tool integration, or development of AI solutions that promote responsible AI use.
  • Networking opportunities within a growing African community advocating for fair and inclusive AI governance.

Application Guidelines

Interested organisations must submit the following:

  • A 1-page cover letter introducing your organisation, your interest in AI capacity-building, and what you hope to gain from the program.
  • A 1-page concept note outlining a proposed advocacy initiative or AI-based solution your organisation could implement during the engagement period.
  • Links to previous work, showcasing your contributions to technology, digital rights, or civic advocacy.
  • Proof of legal registration in Nigeria (CAC certificate or similar documentation).

Selection Process

Only shortlisted organisations will be contacted. If you do not receive feedback within one week of the application deadline, please consider your application unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications, individual feedback will not be provided.
