Role Summary of the Remote Freelance Language Tutor at Afrolingua
- We are seeking passionate Freelance Language Tutors to join our growing team.
- This is an opportunity for tutors who love teaching and want to earn income by offering 1-on-1 or small group lessons through our online platform, similar to marketplaces like Preply or Italki.
- You’ll teach from anywhere, set your own hours, and work with students who are eager to learn African or global languages with cultural context.
- We are especially looking for tutors of the following languages: African Languages: Twi, Yoruba, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Igbo, Swahili, Zulu, Shona, Wolof, Fula, Amharic, Lingala, etc. Foreign Languages: Italian, French, English (ESL), Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Chinese etc.
Responsibilities of the Remote Freelance Language Tutor at Afrolingua
- Deliver engaging and personalised language lessons online using Zoom or Google Meet.
- Help students improve speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills
- Design lesson plans and adapt learning materials to suit student needs
- Share cultural insights that deepen students’ understanding of the language
- Use recommended tools (Google Classroom, Quizlet, Canva, Kahoot, etc.) for lesson delivery
- Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and student-centred teaching practices
- Encourage student participation through interactive and immersive methods.
Requirements
- Have native or near-native fluency in the language(s) you teach
- Comfortable teaching online using Zoom and collaborative platforms
- Strong communication skills and a positive, encouraging attitude
- Experience teaching (formally or informally) or is a confident communicator
- Passionate about language, culture, and helping others learn
- Can work independently and is proactive in lesson planning.
Additional skills:
- Can explain concepts in an African language to beginner learners
- Have experience teaching diaspora communities or immigrants
- Have a background in education, linguistics, translation, or interpreting
